As a homeowner, you have the freedom to renovate and decorate your home. However, sometimes you need some design inspiration. The West Elm House at 2019 Modernism Week offers just that for midcentury modern fans.
This past week at Modernism Week in Palm Springs, Acme House Company has once again partnered with West Elm and local makers, artisans and craftspeople to create their third annual Living Showroom – a luxury vacation rental paradise for modernists.
This 3,118 SF four bedroom, four bath home is located in the El Mirador neighborhood of Palm Springs. Built in 1957, this home features the vintage 1950’s details that are seamlessly integrated with modern conveniences.
As soon as you walk inside the West Elm House, you feel like you’ve been taken back to the 1950’s. The art, light fixtures, furniture, and finishes bring it all together.
The chairs in the foreground can be purchased at West Elm and are called the Wire Frame Slipper Chair. The color is called “dark horseradish”, but also comes in three other colors if you want something more neutral.
The brass chandelier in the center of the room is also by West Elm and called the Sphere + Stem 6-Light Chandelier. This 36″ diameter fixture create a beautiful, modern focal point to the front living room.
The Bradford Sofa and two Cozy Swivel Chairs by West Elm provide seating in the back living room that overlooks the backyard. The Stowe Coffee Table by West Elm sits between the sofa and chairs and is decorated with vases.
Double Bosch ovens and a Samsung smart refrigerator brings this 1950’s home into 2019.
Often forgotten when thinking about decorating a home, hallways are interstitial spaces that can make big statements. This home uses an image of the owner’s grandmother, who was a model, as a focal point at the end of the hallway leading to three of the home’s bedrooms. Hallway runners by West Elm line the floor drawing your eye down the hall.
Staggered Glass Sconces by West Elm line the left side of the hallway providing ambient lighting to space without direct natural daylight. Built-in closets on the right provides space to store your linens and other essentials.
No artist makes me feel the Palm Springs vibe more than Shag. One of his prints hangs atop the headboard of this bedroom. You can buy prints at the Shag Store in Palm Springs or online.
If you are going to have a TV in your bedroom, you have to think about what goes around it. This home is perfect thought through with a Wright Dresser and Carlo Mid-Century Chair by West Elm providing balance to the wall-hung TV.
The smallest bathroom provides the biggest punch in this home. Mosaic wall tile dazzles and West Elm provides the bath accessories with the Faceted Porcelain Soap Pump sitting atop the sleek vanity.
While it is a luxury, a pool is a must in Palm Springs. The water cools the air around your home and offers a respite to the summer heat. A gas fire pit offers a warm spot to relax at night by this pool.
What better way to enjoy the outdoors than grilling food outside on a modern outdoor BBQ. This home has everything you need to prepare an amazing meal under palms swaying in the breeze.
